Water maser emission in IC 342
The detection of 22GHz water vapor emission from IC 342 is reported, raising the detection rate among northern galaxies with IRAS point source fluxes S100μm > 50 Jy to 16%. The maser, associated with a star forming region ∼10–15 west of the nucleus, consists of a single 0.5 kms wide feature and reaches an isotropic luminosity of 10 L⊙ (D=1.8Mpc). If the time variability is intrinsic, the maser ...
متن کاملNeutral hydrogen in dwarf galaxies I . The
This paper is the first in a series presenting a sample of 30 late-type dwarf galaxies, observed with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) in the 21-cm line of neutral atomic hydrogen (HI). The sample itself, the HI content of and the HI distribution in the sample galaxies are briefly discussed. Four sample galaxies were also detected in the continuum.
متن کاملSpatially Resolved Chemistry in Nearby Galaxies. I. the Center of Ic 342
We have imaged emission from the millimeter lines of eight molecules—C2H, C S, N2H , CH3OH, HNCO, HNC, HC3N, and SO—in the central half-kiloparsec of the nearby spiral galaxy IC 342. The 5 00 ( 50 pc) resolution images were made with the Owens Valley Millimeter Array. Using these and previously published CO and HCN images, we obtain a picture of the chemistry within the nuclear region on the si...

متن کاملLarge-scale Hydrogen Production
There is a growing need for hydrogen and a future hydrogen economy is high on the political agenda. But where should the hydrogen come from? The “sustainable” routes are still too expensive. Steam reforming of hydrocarbons is the most feasible route today. If CO2-sequestration is accepted, fossil fuels may play an important role in a starting future “hydrogen economy”. This will happen by use o...
